It has been an incredible day. After only 4 days, 96 hours, we have a mind boggling 13,000+ signatures and rising. I downloaded the petition tonight (at the 11453 mark) and here are the rough stats. First though I have to say... this has grown to something way beyond any expectation of mine. And certainly far faster than any could have imagined. This must be taken seriously by our Government. There are signatures from every corner of BC. This is truly an outcry from across the province. This is consistent with the unanimous approval of the resolution at last September's Union of BC Municipalities to fund the Mars to protect communities. You can see that resolution below. This is a provincial issue. The Premier must respond. Furthermore, she must do the right thing and reverse her governments stubborn and misinformed position. Port Alberni, the home of the bombers, is the largest of course, but still surprisingly small, only about 13% of all the signatures. There are also signatures from various provinces, US states, and some in the UK, Spain, Australia, Italy, Japan. People know and remember the Mars. They are sorted by signature count. Again, this is the first 11453 signers from towns with at least 10 signatures. The only exception is I've combined the totals from people who identified from Kelowna (320), West Kelowna (117) and Westbank (30). All below add up to 10441. Just goes to show, a few little snowflakes can add up to one heck of an avalanche!
