Thank you all for signing the Petition, we've had partial success - there is a Draft Bill out for Consultation, but is it the best Bill? Now is the time for everyone - especially survivors of domestic abuse and coercive control - to have their say and help shape the Law we need. We believe there are flaws in the draft Bill - we also believe the police and courts will need training in coercive control- the proposed legislation makes no provision for training. There is no protection for victims after they leave or after the trial. There is no protection from the abusive partner's family and friends. Please go to consult.gov.im and answer the 6 questions on the domestic abuse Bill. Youdo not have to be Manx to comment - the more voices of experience the better. There is space there for further comments or suggestions and space that survivors can use to tell their experience if they wish. The Dept. of Home Affairs has stated that they want victim input into this Bill and they want to hear the Victim's Voice - so let's give them that voice. Now is our chance to be heard, let's not waste it! To kick us off and hopefully educate people in understanding abuse, here is my story, I did not know I was going to be asked about my story, but they did ask, and by telling, I hope this might help people to understand a little better what abuse is, how it affects us and why we need a law and appropriate sentencing. Thank you for your support.
