Good Afternoon,
I want to thank you all for your continuous support regarding this issue. I'm writing to inform you that the opera is still slated to premiere at John Jay College on March 23rd.
I also want to say that regardless of some Black involvement in the creation of the play, in my opinion, it is still inappropriate for Emmett Till's story to be used in this way. Had he not been lynched, there would be no opera. There would be no money generated and no attention brought to Clare Coss's career because of it.
Additionally, being associated with Black people does not stop non-black people from being racist and/or racially insensitive, even if their intentions are positive.
PIX 11 will be covering this story later today at 5 PM.
