Kwey Indigenous People, Supporters, and Allies,
On Monday, July 13, 2015 Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto filed my appeal. I will keep you informed about the outcome.
Recently I took the time to revisit the Lavell and Bedard case which challenged section 12 (1) b of the old Indian Act. Many of you may know that despite the sex discrimination this case was lost at the Supreme Court of Canada level as such the sex-discrimination remained. When the Charter of Rights and Freedoms expanded the definition of equality the Indian Act was then amended to bring it inline with this new definition. I wrote a short Black Face blog on this - see this link: http://www.lynngehl.com/black-face-blogging/revisiting-lavell-and-bedard
Thank you to everyone who purchased my fundraising book titled Mkadengwe. I managed to sell 290 copies. I have 10 remaining. This is a great entry level book intended for new learners, community people, people with disabilities, and for people with older eyes. It has a larger font, more white space, short chapters with two photo interludes. People interested in purchasing one of these remaining copies can do so through this link: http://www.lynngehl.com/3-mkadengwe.html
Lastly, please continue to post, share, and tweet this petition. I continue to seek signature.
Miigwetch,
Lynn
