The Bank of England has announced on Friday the 2nd November that they are looking for a scientist as the new person on the £50 note who meets the following criteria:

Have contributed to the field of science

Be real – so no fictional characters please

Not be alive - Her Majesty the Queen is the only exception

Have shaped thought, innovation, leadership or values in the UK

    Inspire people, not divide them.

The science category fields are quite broad covering astronomy, biology, bio-technology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, medical research, physics, technology and zoology.

We can still make the case that Mary Seacole should be considered under this category.

Please find further information about Mary Seacole’s contribution to nursing   from Dame Elizabeth N Anionwu that you can refer to in your submission.
