Stop or Significantly Change?

I received the following comment: Hello, I just wanted to suggest you change your petition to something that will fit with more people. Suggesting the speculation tax be scrapped altogether will not get as many signatures as, for example, a speculation tax that exempts long time domestic owners with only one B.C. property. This keeps the objective of the tax, while still getting what you want. It is less of a black or white issues, and more of a fair compromise that people who like the speculation tax can still sign on for. Thanks, and good luck to you. I agree. My assumption is that the issue of true speculation- or flipping - does not apply to most of us. I assume most of us are concerned with this tax as it applies to second homes used for family or recreational purposes, not for speculation. So perhaps the petition should have said “Change” rather than “Stop”. With more than 5,500 signatories I don’t think I can change it now. My hope is that the BC Government will read the many Reasons for Signing this petition and enact a tax policy that will not hurt domestic owners of BC real estate.
