There are only 2 days left! Why do we need a staff lawyer? 1.) Because the WILD MUSTANGS need someone fighting only for them. Just look at how the BLM doesn't give them shade or shelter! Keep in mind the Wild Horse Advisory Board is asking for the BLM to "dispose" of all the wild horses in captivity by selling them to those who would SLAUGHTER THEM 2.) A staff lawyer is much cheaper than paying by the hour. We are 100% volunteer now and the staff lawyer will be the only person paid a salary. 3.) Pro-bono lawyers can only do a little work until their free time is up. Wild horse lawsuits are long and very involved. If they are put to gather quickly and are sloppy they will lose because the BLM is represented by the Department of Justice. 4.) We have had successful legal action in the past (Fort McDermitt, Wyoming & Pine Nuts) and know how to put together a good case. Our legal actions have saved thousands of will horses from going to slaughter. Right now our hand are tied without our own staff lawyer. 5.) We cannot partner with other groups who have lawyers, as we have done in the past, because we are 100% dedicated to wild horses, period. We tried it but it doesn't work. Other groups have their ideologies and ways of working that conflict with our mission to protect and preserve native and wild horses. This is the simple truth. 6.) WILD HORSES are being rounded up, ripped from their families, their land, their freedom and many are KILLED. Many disappear . . . 7.) PRO-SLAUGHTER groups are lobbying in Washington and getting stronger every day. They are working hard to SLAUGHTER America's wild horses for human consumption abroad. In about 3 days the Appropriations Committee will vote on funding horse slaughter inspections, transport of horses to slaughter, etc. The SAFE Act is proposed but is up against the strong PRO-SLAUGHTER lobby and the wording of the SAFE Act is not secure enough to protect wild horses from being SLAUGHTERED because wild horses are not "raised" horses int he U.S.A. That said, the SAFE ACT still needs support because it will throw up some roadblocks when it passes. Please support the SAFE ACT (S.1214 HR. 1942) and ask your elected officials to support it! Right now about 50,000 American wild horses are trapped in holding facilities being fattened up and more will be rounded up if nothing changes.
