Hello friends of Cuttagee Bridge
Have you taken our poll to tell us what you think about Council's plans to demolish Cuttagee Bridge and replace it with a two-lane concrete bridge that seems part of a bigger plan to open up the coast road to freight trucks? We've had more than 400 responses and fantastic comments and insights so far but would love to improve our numbers before we prepare an report for Council.

Update from community member:
Some of the locals working to protect our bridge have been contacting all councillors and candidates in our area. Happy to report that the mayor met with us this week and that he was generous with his time and listened with care about our concern for the bridge and the Council's decision-making process around its future.
We were told the Advisory Panel, announced this week, will be able to make recommendations to council including the option of repairing and restoring in timber. That’s welcome, but the assurance is undermined by Council’s existing policy to demolish timber and replace it with concrete. To us, it feels as if the advisory body is being told the answer before they even get to hear the questions!
This is why locals working to protect the bridge are asking Council to rescind their demolition decision. The Council has a final opportunity to do this before the elections – the last council meeting is next Wednesday. We believe doing so would be an act of good faith with the people joining the advisory panel as volunteers.
Of course, if Council won't withdraw it, then it becomes a campaign issue. We’ll be telling voters which candidates will work to save Cuttagee Bridge and which ones will work to demolish it.
We'd like members of the electorate who want to protect our bridge to help us do that. Watch for a future update!
