Do please join us on Saturday, 15 June, in Birmingham for our event, SCREWED: How the sex industry harms women. It will challenge the idea that prostitution is a normal job, not much different from waitressing or care work. We will hear from women who have been there – how actually, being paid to have sex with multiple strangers a day is in fact very different from serving strangers coffees and emptying their bedpans.
We will hear from a young woman about her journey into prostitution and how, in her words, “There are millions of girls worldwide who are being funnelled into prostitution through a pipeline of sexual objectification and abuse so persistent and effective that being able to choose the when, where and how of our sexual exploitation seems like a comparatively good deal.”
We will also hear from Professor Kathleen Richardson about how porn and new pornographic technologies – from ‘sex’ robots to AI ‘girlfriends’ – are contributing to the loss of love, mutual intimacy and connection.
Do come along and invite your friends, colleagues and family.
