Technology is wonderful if it works…
Last night, our LionAid website disappeared (it is back now). Sadly, this breakdown came about during a donation surge – in fact, unless one of our donors alerted us to the problem we might not have known until this morning. The problem seems to have been caused by our website receiving a surge in visitors while struggling with inadequate RAM on our outsourced server. Many of you will know this problem – it is in fact a usual way “hackers” bring down websites. The server company gave no notice of the RAM problem or the outage – merely commenting that the contract with them included a requirement for us to keep our own eye on such things.
Anyway, as stated, we are back and the problem is sorted. We will also address the RAM problem by paying the server company a higher “rent” fee.
