Along with many other charities, we have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. To put this in perspective, we receive NO funding from any of the Government sources during this crisis (as we are a wildlife conservation charity, so not directly working with people affected by coronavirus) and NO grant funding since the crisis began because again such funding is only directed towards those NGOs dealing with coronavirus issues.
This 2.6 challenge has been created as a virtual event to try and help the UK’s charities, including small ones still needing to deal with globally important issues like wildlife conservation, ending lion trophy hunting and biodiversity.
It launches on Sunday the 26th April, which should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event! Usually £67 million is raised for a large number of charities on a single day.
The 2.6 challenge is a fabulous idea and one we would really like to embrace. It could be a great opportunity for a charity like ours! It gives everyone the chance to do their bit to help LionAid keep going!
So, we are asking you to take part in an activity of your choice based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to support LionAid. Donate £26 or whatever you can afford TODAY! Here’s the link.

Here are some ideas for your 2.6 Challenge!
- Dress up as a lion and do 26 press ups - not all at once unless you are VERY fit!
- Do 26 lunges in your garden, carrying your cat (or your dog if your cat won’t cooperate!!). Get someone to video it!
- Walk 2.6 km (that’s 3,412 steps) around your house, maybe in fancy dress! Photo? Video?
- Host an online lion quiz with 26 questions
- ROAR loudly 26 times into the night and have someone video you doing it – But tell your neighbours beforehand so they will not think a lion escaped from the zoo!
- Learn the words to “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and sing the song with pride. Sing “A-weema-weh” 26 times at the end of the song and maybe have friends join in via Zoom and record it!
- Sing along with Toto – “Africa”. Substitute in the song “wild lions roar in the night” for the original words “wild dogs cry out in the night”. Drum along, invite your friends on social media to join and record it. Repeat the lines “I bless the rains down in Africa” 26 times at the end of the song.
- Use the Internet to make a collage of 26 lion images – not wild ones in this case- but statues. To remind all of us how important lions are in world culture. Lion statues occur across Europe, the USA, South America, Africa and Asia. Find 26!!
Good luck! We will post links to the Fundraising pages as they are created on our website.
