Following my letter to the CEO of Pets At Home, Peter Pritchard denies any suggestion that their hide chews are made from dog or cat skin. A pretty bold claim considering the massive amount of chews they buy from China. I believe very little (or none at all) animal products, that come from China can be 'ethically' sourced or exported. China as a whole have little or no ethics when it comes to the animals they brutally kill and eat, or indeed, the practices they use do so. And then, there is the reality, that hide products are choking and killing our pets! Mr. Pritchard in his reply, whilst prompt, makes no mention of the issue, that hide chews (regardless of their origin), are indeed a highly dangerous and lethal product. Nothing in his reply, suggests he is prepared to listen, investigate or at least accept that 'hide' products are responsible for killing our dogs. Any hide must be processed using all or most of the toxic chemicals, contained within the list in my petition - Plus, ‘raw’ hide is classified neither as a human food nor pet food, so there are NO regulations over its production. Mr. Pritchard states 'we would never buy a product' 'if we had any doubts over pet safety or welfare'. I’d ask the question, “Didn’t I just raise doubts Mr. Pritchard?” So why would a responsible pet store NOT listen, in order to help protect our dogs? Those very dogs that Pets At Home need, and are in business to make money from. China's brutality to animals is one horrendous issue, but regardless of this, ALL hide is still indigestible as a food and a killer as a treat. It looks like Pets At Home are not convinced, despite the overwhelming evidence supplied; not just by you, our petition's signees who have bravely shared their sad stories of pets that have become comatose / fainted / choked / been poisoned, and / or died resulting from swallowing hide, but evidence, easily accessed in my petition, and also available all over the internet.
