Thomas Sowell - The Conversation Holds the Line
Here is a man born with no father in the home.
Gastonia. Harlem. Marines.
He kept what the eye could prove. 🦅
Two visions walk into every argument.
He spent a life showing which one survives the street.
The petition is not the prize. The conversation is. ✍️

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Here is a man born with no father in the home.
Mother couldn’t keep him. A great aunt took him in.
Gastonia orphan of the Depression.
Harlem after that, dropped out at 17.
The rent took the rest. Then the draft came calling.
He joined the Marines. Camera in his hand.
He kept what the eye could prove.
This man is Thomas Sowell.
One night the money was gone and the suit was the last thing he owned.
He walked it into a pawn shop on the Lower East Side,
traded it for a knish and an orange soda,
and sat there like a man at a banquet.
No grievance, no glance at the tables doing better.
Years later: Waldorf, Paris, the White House.
Nothing on those plates ever beat that meal.
Envy is a tax the poor pay to ideas.
He refused to pay it.
Two visions walk into every argument.
One says people are flawed and power won’t fix that.
Reward the act, you get more of it.
Every gain costs something. Call it constrained.
No miracles, just limits.
The other says people are clay and the anointed hold the mold.
A good intention is enough. The damage can wait.
Knowledge is whatever the experts agree on.
He spent a life showing which one survives the street.
An expensively undereducated generation.
Children need footnotes for Frederick Douglass’s words.
It’s not American education — 30 years foretold.
The intellect moved in. The learning never showed.
Tenacity, courage, perseverance, determination, self-worth.
That is the man. That is the line. 💪
So the petition is not the prize.
The conversation is the point.
Sign it today. His wisdom can reach the young before the slogan does.
He would wave the applause off.
That is the ask.
Not a ceremony. A national argument.
Thomas Sowell — not for the medal, for the dialogue they keep postponing.
Thomas Sowell — the tradeoff is the truth.
Sign the petition. The conversation holds the line.
Here is the man they still won’t name in the schools.
Orphan, Marine, the meal humility bought.
If free thought is a fight, he already held the line.
The question is whether we will.
Tenacity, courage, perseverance, determination, self-worth.
Say his name till the anointed have to answer.
Not for the medal — for the dialogue they keep postponing.
The tradeoff is the truth.
Sign the petition.
The conversation holds the line.
Freedom is not the ribbon.
Freedom is where true unity lies.
