Stop the suffering of the merino sheep: Your signature helps!
Whether comfortable scarves, cuddly sweaters, warming underwear or practical functional clothing - a particularly fine natural fibre is merino wool. But the sheep have to suffer, because they are bred with many skin wrinkles to increase the amount of wool on each animal. In exactly those wrinkles moisture, urine and feces accumulate - an ideal basis for insects to lay their eggs. Hatching larvae provide infections that can ultimately lead to sheep's death. The problem of fly infestation is solved by farmers by preventive cutting of the skin lobes. This so-called mulesing often happens without anesthesia or painkillers. Millions of merino lambs are affected by this painful surgical intervention in Australia. Since the beginning of May, there has been an online signature campaign against this - initiated by filmmaker Joanna Michna, supported by the VERBRAUCHER INITIATIVE. The campaign is designed to stop surgical interventions on sheep without the use of painkillers and narcotics in Australia.
With your signature on the petition, you can help the sheep. More than 125,000 people have already signed.
Please share this information with your friends and colleagues!
With best wishes,
Joanna and the Merino film team
