Good news. Giant companies like Google do respond to public pressure!
This week Google listened to public outrage on social media about their new calorie-counting cupcake on Maps, by removing it. Accused of being patronising, triggering, and out-of-touch, Google quickly removed the function which counted calories if users chose to walk to their destination.
The team at Endangered Bodies are excited about this as change is possible. But Google are yet to remove harmful cosmetic surgery games targeting children and institute a policy. We have been closely monitoring them.
Young children aren’t on Twitter or Facebook to protest but adults are and can fight on their behalf.
We’re asking all of you to call on Google on Twitter and/or Facebook to act responsibly. And we need you to do it as soon as you can.
There are more than 20,000 of you, so let’s make our voices heard!
If you’re on Twitter, please tweet one of these tweets, or even better all three:
TWEET ONE: Thx @Google for dropping calorie counting! Now take down kids’ surgery apps!

TWEET TWO: No calorie counting on GoogleMaps but still kids’ surgery apps on @GooglePlay

TWEET THREE: .@Google protected adults by removing calorie counter. What about kids? #OneMoreStepGOOGLE #SurgeryIsNotAGame change.org/surgeryisnotagamenz
And if you are on Facebook here's a suggestion to share with your friends:
Thanks @Google for responding to public outrage over the calorie-counting cupcake on GoogleMaps. Now can you take it one step further and remove harmful cosmetic surgery apps aimed at children from GooglePlay and institute a responsible policy to regulate these apps. It is time Google took one more step towards ending body shame because #SurgeryIsNotAGame.
