Appeal to Grant Starlink Access to Suwayda Province, Syria
O problema
Suwayda province in Syria is home to a vibrant Druze community, a minority group that has faced significant hardships in recent times. The region has been besieged and faced threats of religious violence from the Islamist government. In such precarious circumstances, access to reliable internet is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity. Providing Starlink coverage in Suwayda could mean a lifeline for the residents, allowing them to communicate freely, access lifesaving information, and connect with the outside world without interference by authoritarian entities.
Currently, internet access in Suwayda is controlled by the Islamist government, making it subject to arbitrary blackouts that hinders the communication to the outside world and prevents reaching out for help in emergencies.
Starlink, with its satellite-based internet service, offers a unique solution to this problem. By extending coverage to Suwayda, Starlink can empower the Druze community to break free from governmental control of information. This service would not only ensure the safety and security of communication but also support the fundamental human right to information and expression.
It is imperative for Starlink to consider this request seriously. By expanding their network to include Suwayda, Starlink would be making a powerful statement in support of human rights and technological egalitarianism. Such a move would not only enhance the lives of many but also promote peace and stability in a region that is in dire need of both.
We call upon Starlink and relevant stakeholders to expedite the process of enabling coverage in Suwayda. Doing so will represent a significant step toward justice, equality, and freedom for the Druze community in Syria. Please sign this petition and help us bring this crucial change to life.
