Hi Cash Lovers,
New statistics are confirming what sensible people already know - there is no possibility that Australia (or New Zealand) can ever become cashless societies.
In the last ten years, the amount of cash on issue in NZ has almost doubled. In Australia the value of banknotes on issue is up more than 66%.
Susan Guthrie from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand said more cash is being held by Kiwis across the country, reports Yahoo News.
"Our latest stats show that those who depend on it, [who] withdraw cash a lot during the week and use it for spending, is actually growing a little, and at the other extreme, those who don't use cash much are using it less and less," she said.
"It's almost like a bit of a twist in the market - some people really need it, some people don't think they do, but everybody says they like the option of it so we're committed to making it available."
In Australia, RBA data shows that the value of physical banknotes circulating in the community has risen from around $60 billion in 2015 to over $100 billion today.
This all means that banks must stop limiting our access to cash.
Banks profit from every cashless transaction. But they still have a central role to play in providing us with access to cash. Banks must stop trying to force us into a cashless Australia that will boost their bottom lines.
Thank you for supporting our petition:
We call for an Australian Banking and Cash Guarantee that includes these rights:
1) All Australians must be able to have reasonable local access to cash and full banking services.
2) All Australians must be able to choose cash when paying for food and essentials at physical retailers.

Our campaign is now making a big difference. Here is Natalie Barr on Sunrise talking about cash.
A senate committee has recently recommended guaranteed access to cash.
A new proposed law before parliament seeks to guarantee cash acceptance.
We need to keep this campaign going to maintain the pressure on banks and government.
