Woohoo! Almost 2 years ago, I created this petition and informed airline companies that the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, does not allow airline companies to discriminate against transgender people. Back then, the ticket booking forms of none of the companies offered the gender-neutral title ‘Mx’ that is commonly used by trans non-binary people. Due to this, passengers who use ‘Mx’, were forced to pick an incorrect title for themselves, either ‘Mr’, ‘Mrs’ or ‘Ms’, in order to book a ticket. After months of following up with several airline companies that operate in India, Vistara and Air Asia have finally updated their systems and added the option ‘Mx’ to their ticket booking forms. This is just the first step but an important one. Indian airports continue to view gender as binary even though the Indian law does not. There are no gender-neutral washrooms at Indian airports and the security check procedures too, segregate passengers as Male and Female. In many other countries, airports have a common security queue for people of all genders and the scanning is performed by a machine, instead of a security personnel. I hope that with airlines taking one step forward, airports too will take necessary measures to make travelling stress free for my LGBTQIA+ folks. Thank you everyone for signing this petition. I truly appreciate your support!
