Claire went to Brighton before any of her family had a chance to say goodbye, and we now have her sister and brother distraught. She telephoned at 10.30 last night - in tears - she has heard something about only being there a week (we just hope that they know that Claire's communication and understanding isn't fab so using long words and sentences is meaningless). She is also upset that as it is a medium secure unit that she is NOT allowed her iPad, or even her loom bands - these are things that she has used daily for ages now. She has no idea when she is going to see us - we were hoping to travel down today, but until she has met with a social worker and things been assessed, which won't be until Monday, nothing can be done. It's SO cruel. A girl who was in the middle of Swansea city centre on Thursday - having her glasses tightened in Specsavers, walking through Primark, shouting "boo" to a friend in the Quadrant, and spending quality family time with her family, especially her siblings, and Jonjo the dog, is now from one day later in a medium secure unit 5 hours from home, with nothing familiar, not able to see family, and not knowing how long she will be there. We know it's not the new unit to blame - they have policies and rules. BUT - for Claire, who has been with us and in the community 265 out of 327 days this is SO wrong. Last Sunday she was doing the race for life. We don't understand it, and are powerless to help, but just find it so cruel. She is heartbroken 5 hours away, and doesn't deserve to be locked up. Ei have always said that she can come home, BUT we would need some support. SHE SHOULD NOT be so far away against hers and our wishes.
