On September 3, 2022 Bernard Placide, Jr. was shot and killed by the Englewood NJ police in his home after his mother called for help with his mental health crisis.
Instead of doing a mental health intervention, the officers tased, shot and killed him. Police video shows Bernard on the floor after being tased, with officer Luana Sharpe then rushing up and shooting him at a point blank range.
The family has learned that the city of Englewood is trying to PROMOTE two of the officers who are under investigation for the shooting. City officials are LYING about the promotions.
Bernard's family and the supporting organizations are making the following DEMANDS (partial list)--
Officer Sharpe must be fired, arrested and indicted for the shooting death of Bernard Placide, Jr.
No promotions for officers involved in the shooting incident-stop lying about it!
Englewood must have a civilian review board with parallel investigation, subpoena, and discipline powers.
Transfer oversight of the Englewood PD from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office to the NJ State Attorney General's Office.
Fund, build, and seed a junior youth center in Bernard Placide, Jr.’s name.
We are sharing documents from the Englewood Police Department from an anonymous source describing the promotion of the officers.
Please review the State of New Jersey's Law Enforcement Directive from the office of the Attorney General - "Directive Ensuring the Independent Investigation of Criminal Cases Involving Police Use-of-Force or In-Custody Deaths."
