A golf course in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar area was built for Rs 48 crore and yet the local planning agency, Cidco, wants to build another one just 10 kms away in Nerul on eco-sensitive wetlands, TOI reports today. Residents say this is just a land grab facilitated by Cidco to help a builder corner prime plots to set up a real estate project on land which has been a natural habitat for flamingoes. When governments and their agencies act as property brokers, they can tweak rules, increase construction norms and change land reservations to benefit their favourite developers.
