Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have been home to flamingos for years. The Greater and Lesser flamingos migrate to warmer climate of summers in Mumbai from Saurashtra and Rann of Kutch. 95 percent of the flamingos that migrate to Mumbai are lesser flamingos, the greater ones are taller. The flamingos feed on the red-algae in water and shrimps which is where they get their pink color from. The Talawe wetlands which were under the threat of being destroyed are home to these agile and beautiful creatures. People come in large numbers to see these flamingos and the surrealistic view of these birds soaking up the sun make up for the scorching heat. These flamingos which are social and thrive in large colonies did not show up at the Sewri jetty until very recently due to the sound of the construction work Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=756277988095479&id=740613302995281
