As Mumbaikars, we all have to realise the natures gift that has been endowed upon us. People pay hundreds of dollars across the world just to get a glimpse of the near threatened lesser flamingos. We get them for free. The skies and the water bodies of our city start turning pink from winter until the monsoon when these guests arrive. They derive their pink colour from the algae they eat. However, habitat destruction is threatening their numbers and also Mumbai's rampant destruction of water bodies have made an uncertain future for the arrival of the pink beauties in our city.
