Dear Supporters,
We now have well over 600 signatures in just 6 days. Thank you to everyone for your support. Special thanks to those who have chipped in to support promoting the campaign. This has really helped to get the word out there.
Our case was raised in Parliament today – see here
Good to see that there is another petition underway for folks in the Isle of Wight who have the same concerns. There is now a movement of petitions like ours across the south of England.
We want to keep up the momentum. We still need to get word out and build the petition. We plan to send it to the Secretary of State on 27th January so have just over a week. This is before the critical date of 31st January when the Government are due to announce whether our region will be included in the Devolution Priority Programme and what will happen to our May elections.
Don’t forget to watch the edited "highlights" video of the HCC meeting where this decision was made here. It’s well worth a watch to get a sense of why we are here. Six HCC councillors offering their voices which ranged from some excellent arguments for the elections to go ahead as planned, to some shocking disregard for their voters and complacency.
So please do share far and wide. Let's make sure as many people know about this damaging undemocratic move by the government and HCC.
Once again, many thanks for your support for democracy.
