Greetings and thankyou to those that have signed since commencement of this petition. Please continue to share with others to sign and help stamp out inappropriate overdevelopment in Thornbury 3071 FOREVER!
Today we door knocked in the street and received many new signed objections from residents . It is fair to say that everyone is very concerned and EVERYONE we managed to speak to signed an objection. Here is what they signed:-
We object to the proposed overdevelopment at xx Collins Street, Thornbury on the following basis:-
- a single storey period weatherboard house will be replaced with a 4-storey dual occupancy with an underground carpark built right up to the neighbours' boundaries and an open-air terrace.
- The style and scale of the proposed development with its limited setbacks, limited landscaping, flat roof, dual cross-overs/driveways/ ramps is not in keeping with the pre and post war character of the neighbourhood.
- Even where new housing has been built in recent years, it is in keeping with the style of our neighbourhood with front and side setbacks, significant landscaping, pitched roofs and single crossovers/driveways.
- We seek Darebin Council to abide by its own planning policies, including the designation of Collins Street and the surrounding Thornbury streets as an 'incremental housing change area' (Darebin Planning Scheme).
- If this proposed development is allowed to proceed it will serve as an unwelcome precedent, leading our community to lose its characteristic housing style and locals to lose any sense of privacy and amenity. We oppose a planning approach where whoever builds last gets to set their own rules.
