FREE HINDU TEMPLES FROM EXCESSIVE GOVERNMENT CONTROL

Protect Our Temples. Preserve Our Dharma. Empower Our Devotees.

Our temples are sacred centres of faith, culture, heritage, and community. It is time to demand transparent, accountable, and community-led temple administration.

For generations, Hindu temples have preserved our spiritual traditions, ancient architecture, priceless sculptures, sacred jewellery, and cultural heritage. Devotees deserve a meaningful voice in how these institutions are administered and protected.

We respectfully call upon the Government of India and the relevant State Governments to review the existing Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) laws and work towards a fair, constitutionally sound system that safeguards temple traditions and enables greater community participation.

Why does this matter?

- Temple autonomy: Promote community-led administration and reduce unnecessary bureaucratic and political interference.

- Financial transparency: Ensure regular independent audits and public accountability for temple income, expenditure, lands, and assets.

- Heritage protection: Safeguard ancient sculptures, paintings, inscriptions, jewellery, and other sacred artefacts.

- Devotees’ rights: Protect lawful worship, traditional practices, and respectful access to temple facilities.

- Accountable leadership: Establish transparent trustee selection, independent oversight, and effective grievance-redressal mechanisms.

- Equal treatment: Review the legal frameworks governing religious institutions to ensure fairness and consistency with constitutional principles.

Our demands

We urge the Union Government to initiate a comprehensive review of HR&CE legislation, consult devotees and religious communities, and work with the states towards autonomous, community-led temple management wherever constitutionally and legally feasible.

We also call for stronger safeguards against temple-property encroachment, financial irregularities, theft of sacred artefacts, and damage caused by inappropriate renovation.

India became independent on 15 August 1947. We believe the governance of Hindu temples deserves a renewed examination that respects religious freedom, constitutional values, and the legitimate interests of devotees.

This is a peaceful appeal for reform, transparency, accountability, and respect for our religious heritage.
