On Friday, the Governor of Wisconsin announced a plan, to be voted on later this week, to dismantle the collective bargaining rights of state employees and to force state employees to take a sharp pay cut to help pay for benefits. The sweep of this cost-cutting plan got it onto the national news. As if this wasn't bad enough, Walker has also threatened to call the National Guard on striking workers. Public employees -- and many supporters -- are rising up in outrage over this. It's time to stand up and tell Walker and the rest of the government that these actions are not acceptable.
Several state senators are currently listed as being "on the fence" about this vote. Any pressure we can put on them is key. This petiton is targeted specifically at them and the Governor. Let's try to get 1,000 signatures by the end of this week.
UPDATE: As of February 14th at 11:50 pm, we've now reached our original goal of 1,000 signatures. But in this case, good enough isn't good enough. The goal has now been doubled to 2,000. Let's get there by Thursday. I know we can do it if we try. Keep the pressure on the State Senate.
Stand With Wisconsin: Vote For Employee Rights
Greetings,
On Friday, the Governor of Wisconsin announced a plan, to be voted on later this week, to dismantle the collective bargaining rights of state employees and to force state employees to take a sharp pay cut to help pay for benefits. The sweep of the cost-cutting plan made national news. Public employees and supporters are outraged, and rightfully so. If passed, this bill would erase the years of work it took for employee rights to become what they are.
As if this wasn't bad enough, Walker has also threatened to call the National Guard on striking workers, denying their legitimate right to protest and threatening them in order to force them into submission.
Don't stand for this blatant abuse of workers' human rights. Stand with the working people of Wisconsin this week and vote against this bill. Your vote could make all the difference.
