Tell Wisconsin: Don't Sacrifice Employee Rights

On Friday, the Governor of Wisconsin announced a plan, to be voted on later this week, to dismantle the collective bargaining rights of state employees and to force state employees to take a sharp pay cut to help pay for benefits. The sweep of this cost-cutting plan got it onto the national news.  As if this wasn't bad enough, Walker has also threatened to call the National Guard on striking workers. Public employees -- and many supporters -- are rising up in outrage over this. It's time to stand up and tell Walker and the rest of the government that these actions are not acceptable.

Several state senators are currently listed as being "on the fence" about this vote. Any pressure we can put on them is key. This petiton is targeted specifically at them and the Governor. Let's try to get 1,000 signatures by the end of this week.

UPDATE: As of February 14th at 11:50 pm, we've now reached our original goal of 1,000 signatures. But in this case, good enough isn't good enough. The goal has now been doubled to 2,000. Let's get there by Thursday. I know we can do it if we try. Keep the pressure on the State Senate.

I've been an advocate of civil rights, workers' rights and collective bargaining for the better part of 30 years now. What Gov. Walker has done to the working class of Wisconsin is deplorable by all standards of human decency. The fight for workers' rights must never be taken for granted, especially when the Republicans have become total servants to their corporate masters. We must fight on though we be out-financed by the millionairs/billionaires on the right. Our childrens' childrens deserve nothing less than our total committment to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." It can only be achieved through collective bargaining which levels the playing field for us all.

Walker and the GOP thugs' actions in breaking the unions have been unacceptable. It's time to show them that labor still has power. It's time for a general strike!
