GSAs serve an important role for LGBTQ students and their allies; providing them with a safe space to discuss issues and get the support that they need, as they are often faced with discrimination and bullying at the hands of their peers. The Secretary for Education to schools has stepped forward and stated that schools are to allow GSA's to form, and any attempts by the Monroe County School System to block these students from forming their GSA need to addressed. This petition will also serve to assure any teacher willing to step forward and sponsor the group that he or she is supported.
