Despite President Obama's announced almost entire lifting of the moratorium on permits for new drilling, and the halt to the type of environmental waiver that was given to the Deepwater Horizon rig, the Interior Department's Minerals and Management Service has since not seriously updated procedures, regulations, safety requirements and reporting when it’s issued permits and waivers for similar wells to go forward in the Gulf of Mexico; as the disaster in the Gulf coast. With the disastrous "Big Spill" not even approaching restoration, this is simply outrageous; and must be reversed. Until the British Petroleum oil spill is completely investigated and revealed, and new procedures are required to prevent future spills with real follow-up and enforcement, no permits should be issued. If Secretary Salazar will not halt this dangerous process, he should be fired, and President Obama should apologize to the nation; and, possibly, resign. Put a hold on all new offshore drilling with no exceptions.
