Having a false allegation made against a person can destroy their lives. They can be wrongly convicted, lose their children, their home, their job and damage their health. The only action that can be taken against a perpetrator is for them to be charged with perjury or wasting police time. These are defences of the state not the person. False allegations inflict real harm on the innocent and should be criminalized.
