Diocese of Springfield, MA: Rebuild Cathedral High School on Surrey Road

Diocese of Springfield, MA: Rebuild Cathedral High School on Surrey Road
The Issue
On June 1, 2011 Cathedral High School was severely damaged by a tornado. It's been more than 2 1/2 years and rebuilding has not begun.
Since 1883 Cathedral has educated tens of thousands of students from Greater Springfield. Its hallmarks are academic excellence and pride of its athletics and extracurricular activities.
From 1959 to 2011 the school was located on Surrey Road in East Forest Park. After the tornado hit, the school was moved to an old elementary school in Wilbraham, MA. Although the facilities are not ideal for a high school, the students, faculty, administrators and staff have persevered and waited patiently for Cathedral to be rebuilt.
In September 2013 it was announced that the Diocese received a 49.4 million insurance settlement for Cathedral. However the Diocese has yet to announce a rebuilding plan.
Shortly after the tornado hit Bishop McDonnell said the Diocese will "undertake everything necessary to bring us back home, here to Surrey Road in East Forest Park." “Cathedral will be back. Cathedral will be here. Cathedral will continue."
It's time for Cathedral High School to return home to Surrey Road.
