It's time to update the laws about toxic chemicals, their effect on our health, food supplies, our progeny and the earth, can‘t be underestimated. Today there are over 80,000 chemicals in products sold in the US, but, the Toxic Substances Control Act, etc., regards them as safe unless they’re proven to be otherwise. Too often kids, who are more susceptible to environmental toxins, are the first to be poisoned by untested commercial products; and, next, poisoning of our foods. In the past, the Safe Chemicals Act of 2010 required manufacturers to prove that the chemicals in their products are non-toxic, and it gave the E.P.A. greater authority to take swift action against chemicals that pose high risks; yet, it‘s clear, even more must be done. The administration and Congress should support this much needed reform, now.
