Ask Washington Farms to End Their Cruel Water Pig Races.

The Issue

My family and I visited Washington Farms on Sunday, October 5th and everything was great until they had the pig races. They started the race with four 8 week old piglets with paint on their backs that was not necessary, that came out of a chute and ran around a dirt track and back into the barn to get food. This happened two more times with two different sets of piglets. However, an employee then put four other 8 week old piglets inside of the chute and called them "our swimmers" and then what I would call animal abuse began.

These babies would hardly leave the chute and when they were forced out they slowly walked around the track because they knew what their fate was going to be. They walked up a ramp that led to a water filled raceway and they completely stopped.  Mr. Washington who is the emcee even said they like getting into water about as much as a newborn baby, so you know they hate doing this. Because they would not jump into the water on their own, you had your employee come up behind and shove one of the piglets into the water that was over its head and forced it to swim to the other side while the others followed after it.

It was in the low 50s to 60s that day and the water must have been cold. Washington Farms is a nice place and you have beautiful gardens and many fun activities, but I promise that very few people found it entertaining when the four piglets were standing at the top of the ramp looking terrified and most were feeling very sorry for them.
