Thomas "Tommy" McClain was shot and killed by Eureka police in front of his family's home just after midnight on September 17, 2014.  He was 22 years old.

There has been no arrest of officers involved in this shooting, and the "investigation" of this shooting is being handled by the Eureka Police Department itself.  Chief Andrew Mills has said he will be responsible for deciding the fate of Stephen Linfoot, one officer named in the killing.

Troubling and changing details have been trickling out of the Eureka Police Department, but still no clear explanation of Tommy's death exists.  Tommy's family and others in the community are still seeking answers.

We, the undersigned, as concerned citizens are symbolically requesting a coroner's inquest, since we do not hold the legal power to formally request one.  We are also requesting that those who do hold the legal power to request this inquest do so, without delay.  Those persons/groups include:  Humboldt County District Attorney, Paul Gallegos, Humboldt County Sheriff, Michael Downey, Humboldt County Grand Jury, Eureka City Attorney, Cyndy Day-Wilson, Eureka Chief of Police, Andrew Mills, and California Attorney General, Kamala Harris.
