Enact Permanent Daylight Saving Time

Enact Permanent Daylight Saving Time
The Issue
Daylight Saving is an outdated practice.
First implemented during World War I, DST was intended to reduce electricity costs. But many current studies show that no such benefit is gained, and in fact, " In 2001, a study by the California Energy Commission found that winter daylight saving time would produce a 3.4% net decrease in electricity usage during those months. The Commission concluded that year-round daylight saving time would save Californians between $100 million and $350 million each year" (http://lawreview.law.uark.edu/congress-should-enact-year-round-daylight-saving-time.html).
More importantly, constantly changing our clocks can have serious health risks. "Charles Czeisler , M.D. Ph.D., chief of the division of sleep medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, and professor and director of the division of sleep medicine at Harvard Medical School, explains some of the harrowing effects of turning the clocks forward for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. We may not worry about cutting just one hour of sleep, he explains, but, 'springing forward' significantly increases the risk of fatal car crashes and heart attacks" (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/11/daylight-saving-time-health_n_1327202.html).
It is time to put the crazy clock-changing to rest. Tell state and federal leaders to enact permanent Daylight Saving Time. Make this "spring forward" our last time change.
