Save North St Albans Green Belt

Save North St Albans Green Belt

The Issue

We petition St Albans District Council to remove the land in North St Albans from any Local Plans to safe guard it from unsustainable, inappropriate and speculative development.

They must stop the unnecessary destruction of our limited local countryside. The Council and Councillors that run it have the power to protect Green Belt and should use those immediately.

CLASH needs to hire the experts and take legal action to stop this happening.

There should be no development on North St Albans Green Belt.  It is an area of high quality agricultural land, containing a principal chalk aquifer providing our clean drinking water, supporting the ecology of Heartwood Forest and performs well in all Green Belt functions.  We love our local countryside and want to continue to preserve it for generations to come.

There are wonderful views towards and from the edge of Heartwood Forest, which links to the North East.  The area contributes to the ecological corridors for Heartwood Forest, Batchwood, Beech Bottom Dyke and Soothouse Spring Woods.

Our infrastructure, local transport, flooding, vital education and healthcare services and cannot cope and will not support further development.   Air pollution would be made even worse on the main transport link of the A1081 Harpenden Road.

There are no "very special circumstances" that require the irreversible destruction of this beautiful area of St Albans.
