Save MVCC's A&P program

Save MVCC's A&P program
The Issue
This FAA-certified Aviation Maintenance (A&P) program is more than an aviation course; it is one of the few proven pathways out of economic stagnation for young people in our community. In an area with limited skilled-trade and technical opportunities, this program gives local students access to a nationally recognized, in-demand career without requiring them to take on crushing debt or leave the region without a plan. I personally left a full-time job working on an oil rig and moved here specifically for this program because it is affordable, well regarded, and one of the shortest A&P programs in the country. I chose it because of the reputation it has for producing competent, professional technicians who are respected in the industry. Programs like this do not just train mechanics; they give people a future, mobility, and a way forward when local options are limited. Eliminating this program does not align education with opportunity; it removes opportunity entirely, particularly for students who rely on workforce training as their only realistic path. Once a federally certificated technical program is shut down, it is rarely rebuilt. We urge decision-makers to recognize that this program serves the people of the community and that cutting it would permanently close one of the few doors still open to our youth.
