Remove Convicted Sex Offender Mike Buckley From Public Office
The Issue
Saddleworth Parish Councillor Mike Buckley has been sentenced by Judge Jonathan Foster at Manchester Crown Court for downloading indecent pictures of young boys to his computer after his home was raided by police in March 2014.
His conviction includes attending 35 sessions, in the Internet Sexual Offenders Treatment Programme and he will be subject to supervision by the Probation Service for two years. In addition, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and will be on a strict curfew between 8am and 4pm for 28 days.
However, Mr Buckley is refusing to resign from his elected post as Independent Councillor for Saddleworth, Saddleworth Civic Trust or as founder of the school protest group, Save Diggle Action Group (SDAG).
We believe Mr Buckley should be removed from his roles on Saddleworth Parish Council, SDAG, Saddleworth Civic Trust and any other public group. His refusal to do so is both damaging and upsetting to all residents of Saddleworth.
We are calling for the Chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council to force a vote of no confidence in Mr Buckley, and for Independent Councillor Mr Keith Lucas to publicly remove Mr Buckley from SDAG's School Campaign.
