Refunds for the Rutgers Newell Apartments

The Issue

Since December 2015, over twenty-three Newell Apartments at Rutgers University have experienced issues with the electricity after a power line break. From random power outages that can last for hours at a time, to the constant maintenance demanded from the temporary generator on a bi-weekly/weekly manner, the amount of inconvenience plaguing the students living in these apartments has not improved. Students have had issues with lights, power outlets, the electrical stove and getting internet connection. As the weather gets colder, students are also having issues with the hot water and heating system. While the students understand that Rutgers is working to solve these issues, the inconveniences faced are not accommodated by a simple apology. Considering the fact that students need these amenities to complete homework, study, eat, cook, and bathe, there is no reason to charge these students with a housing bill that has not provided the basic utilities and function it pays for. The students agree that a compensation in the form of a Housing Refund is necessary, as they do not wish to pay for amenities that are as unreliable as they have been. Please support this petition demanding Rutgers Housing Facilities to give the residences of the Newell Apartments affected by these issues a fair and necessary housing refund. Whether you are a resident, student, parent, alumni or stranger, you would really be helping these residence members on getting the justice and money they deserve!
