Bring back Gundev Ghimire and Krishna Upadhyaya

The Issue

British human rights researcher, Krishna Upadhyaya and photographer Gundev Ghimire have been held by the police in Doha since 31st of August 2014. The two men were working for human rights group Global Network for Rights and Development’s (GNRD) in Qatar where they were researching the exploitation of migrant workers employed for the construction of FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums.

Qatar has been under international scrutiny over the treatment and exploitation of migrant workers from developing countries. They have been accused of blatant violation of human rights by forcing the workers to toil under slave–like conditions in the desert heat for as little as 50p a day.

Before their disappearance, Krishna Upadhyaya and Gundev Ghimire had sent text messages to friends and family about being harassed by the local police and being followed by plain clothes police officers. After fearing for their safety, the two men decided to leave Qatar and were meant to board a flight to London on 31st of August. They checked out of their hotel but were kidnapped by the Qatari authorities before they could board their flight home.

Please sign this petition to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in UK, to put pressure on the Qatari authorities to disclose the whereabouts of Krishna Upadhyaya and Gundev Ghimire who have been detained in Doha.
