Support the S541/HR1094 ~ The Safeguard American Food Exports Act 2966

Your tax dollars would be spent to inspect a meat not raised for food, while taking away money to inspect the meat we do eat and raise for food.

Since horses are not raised for food they are not raised under the food safety guidelines and therefore are given medications which are banned from use in ANY animal intended for human consumption.

Why should our tax dollars be spent to help make foreign interests money while taking away protections from our own citizens

Horse slaughter is about food production, it is not about unwanted old, injured, sick and neglected horses, it's about supply and demand. A supply that is filled with our young healthy horses.

Please call and or fax your congressmen.

Horses are NOT for consumption. They have been a part of our evolution for THOUSANDS of years, carrying us on horseback, pulling our carriages and plows for crops. We would not be where we are as a civilization without them - that alone should be enough cause for us to respect them enough not to eat them. Honor our history. Now, horses are a part of another form of transportation. They are our partners in personal and leadership development, they take us to the depths of our psyche and gracefully show us how to be better humans. They are also used in therapy for the mentally and physically handicapped. Have you ever seen an autistic child get on the back of a horse? Their faces light up with joy and their expression defines the very connection they have with that sentient being at that moment. People suffering from muscular dystrophy go through physical therapy on the back of the horse, because of the way they move simulates the way our hips move when we walk. The millions of reasons why this law should be overturned are details, a story. The true reason is in your heart. Could you really eat a horse? Sign this petition if you disagree with horses becoming a part of the drive through menu at your local fast food chain.

We only have 1500 more signatures left and I know that seems like a lot, but not in comparison to how many we've collected. This is your effort as much as it is mine. We ask that the House of Representatives, Senate, and President Obama pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011, S.B. 1176/H.R. 2966, to ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption. This is particularly important for the following reasons:

      1) Horses are revered for their contributions to the building of this country, their long-standing history of working alongside humans in a variety of tasks, their companionship, and their special bond with people;

      (2) Horses are not raised for the purpose of being slaughtered for human consumption and as a result, American horses are not raised, fed and medicated within the FDA guidelines established for food animals, making them potentially unfit and unsafe for human consumption;

      (3) Horse slaughter is not humane euthanasia, and does not allow for each animal to be respectfully treated as an individual;

      (4) Banning slaughter would encourage breeders to be more careful in the number of foals they produce, and ultimately woul

    17. Call your Senators!!!!

      I think its important that we keep the signing & sharing the petition. It can only help our cause. 250,000+ signatures cannot be overlooked!
      However, in an effort to keep everyone informed, here is the latest:

      In from an activist (works @ NHSPCA) about the horse slaughter battle: A petition that was already submitted, got the reaction, "thanks for playing." Now lock your horses up because theft will be on the rise since we've made slaughter legal. Petitions don't work. CALLS work. Everyone needs to call their senators and reps and say NO NO NO to horse slaughter in America. Representatives should co-sponsor Bill HR 2966 and Senators need to co-sponsor S 1176. (Thank you Sharon Wright)
