PAFT (Parents As First Teachers) has been an incredibly important programme in both myself and my daughters lives, and I am greatly disappointed to hear that their services are being discontinued.

They provide support in understanding how your child grows and develops, and help you to work alongside your child to ensure the best possible start. They also help the parents to gain confidence in their parenting and teach many skills that I have personally found invaluable. They provided assurance that your child is learning on par with their age, and if not, they are able to provide assistance with this. They also run outings throughout the year which helps to connect you to other families which, if you are feeling isolated and overwhelmed can be an incredible lifeline.

Our PAFT educator was incredibly important to us, and the bond between her and my daughter was fantastic, especially when my daughter has always been shy around others. I believe that she played a huge part in my daughters social development, and she was always super excited anticipating her next visit. Our PAFT educator was one of the first people that she accepted and bonded with outside of family members.

Luckily for us, our programme will have been completed before closing, but there are lots of families who will either not get to finish, or will not have the opportunity to participate.

I know that this service has played a large part in the lives of many families, and I am sad to think that it wont be here for anyone in the future.
