Save Sydney's Sandstones - Stop the Sell-Off of Our Cultural Heritage

Save Sydney's Sandstones - Stop the Sell-Off of Our Cultural Heritage

The issue

The Department of Education building on Bridge street, as well as the adjacent Department of Lands building have been put up for sale [99 yr lease] by the NSW Government. The lease is intended to go to a hotel chain to develop them as a “Boutique Hotel”.

THESE BUILDINGS - APART FROM THEIR IMMENSE ARCHITECTURAL VALUE - ARE AN IRREPLACEABLE PART OF THE CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF THE CITY.

These buildings can and must be kept in Public hands – they are part of the citizens Social and Cultural Capital. The Education Dept. Building can be readily converted into a city Public High School -Bridge Street High!

The Lands Department can be a New City Museum or an annex to the Art Gallery of NSW.

Already the General Post Office and the former Treasury Building have been converted to hotels.

Enough is Enough!

Demand the retention and public use of our most valuable buildings!

Stop the Privatisation of our cultural capital!
