Save Frome's last undeveloped green space

Save Frome's last undeveloped green space
The Issue
Broadway Allotments and Community Garden Association are asking for your support to protect Frome’s last undeveloped green space.
Located behind Oakfield Road, Broadway and The Old Nurseries, on the north west side of Frome, the site is a one-acre oasis of wildlife, trees, scrub, grass, wildflowers and pedestrian pathways. We want to retain and enhance it for the whole community to benefit from, as well as its existing wildlife.
Mendip District Council who own the site are looking at the potential of building social housing on the land. Although we recognise the importance of social housing, the existing wildlife and habitat, community value, surrounding housing, access and traffic issues make this site entirely unsuitable for development.
In partnership with Frome Town Council, we are proposing a community allotment and orchard for the people of Frome to enjoy and benefit from. There would be opportunities for people, schools and community groups to take part in outdoor learning, food growing, harvesting and foraging, as well as space to relax and enjoy nature. Pedestrian paths would be protected and resurfaced, providing school children with a safe off-road walk to and from school.
The existing wildlife of badgers, foxes, slow-worms, amphibians, hedgehogs, birds and visiting foragers such as bats and birds of prey would be supported through a range of suitable habitats throughout the site.
Please sign this petition to show your support of this proposal and help protect this precious space.
