Save Heysham children's centre from closure!

Save Heysham children's centre from closure!

The Issue

·  Lancashire County Council cares so much for the environment (wouldn’t allow fracking, and over 80% of Lancashire is rural), then why close down our service when more and more people will drive or use public transport thus increasing pollution and damaging the environment.

·  Lancashire has the highest levels of illiteracy and innumeracy in children in the country, by shutting down the centre this would remove vital support of children and young people when they need it the most.

·  If Poulton, Balmoral and Heysham nurseries have to close due to their buildings closing it will mean over 300 nursery places lost in the local area.

·  The pre-school is also an eligible provider for 2 year funded places. Over the last few years the County Council have made funding available to nursery providers to extend their provision order to accommodate all the 2 year old children who qualify for this funding.

·  From September 2017 30 hours free childcare for working parents will be introduced. Consultation processes have already started to enable to County Council to ensure that they have adequate places available. How does it make any sense to possibly make capital funding available to cope with this demand when potentially a nursery provider in the children's centre could close if the building closes?

·  There is also the staff within the office at the centre, are they going to lose their jobs?

!). It is not fair to remove this service from an area that values the centre but also pays for it (if you close it down does that mean we will all get a reduction in our council tax?)
