Niagara Parks! Niagara residents want free parking at the Glen!!

The Issue

The Niagara Parks commission is going to install parking meters at The Glen!

The Niagara Parks are Niagara's green space for free, healthy, happy family activities.  Let's tell Niagara Parks that we want to continue to have free access to the Niagara Glen (Steel Stairs).

The excerpt from The Review:

Paid parking began at Thompson Point this week and parking metres will be installed at the Niagara Glen by the spring of 2017.

The rates at both Niagara Parks Commission sites, which were previously offered free parking, will be in effect between May and October.

Janice Thomson, NPC chairwoman, said the decision to implement seasonal paid parking at the locations was made to help better manage and control the limited number of parking spaces and promote the safety of pedestrians during the peak tourism months.

“Our aim is to facilitate enhanced visitation to the Niagara Glen and Thompson Point and the introduction of seasonal paid parking will assist us in managing the supply of spaces to ensure all those who wish to visit theses site, have an opportunity to do so,” she said.

Parking rates at Thompson Point are $1.25 an hour, or a maximum of $10 per day. The same rates will apply at Niagara Glen next spring.

WildPlay Niagara’s Whirlpool Adventure Course, expected to open soon, is located at Thompson’s point. Anyone visiting the new attraction will not be required to pay for parking.

Regular visitors to the Niagara Glen can purchase an annual parking pass for $30.

The agency created several annual parking passes in 2015.

A yearly pass for the Floral Showhouse, for example, is $30, while the Butterfly Conservatory annual parking pass is $12.

Parking passes for the Niagara Glen will be available at the Niagara Glen Nature Centre beginning in the spring of 2017. For more information, visit www.niagaraparks.com/parking or call 905-356-0943.
