Deer meat, or venison, is often not inspected before being donated. It can be filled with lead after sharpshooters kill many hundreds of native deer in our Cleveland Metroparks (CMP, aka Emerald "Reckless"). The real kicker? CMP head of natural resources admitted last spring that the reason we have so many deer is BECAUSE Ohio hunting has been so successful; in other words, killing is not the solution to the population issue. It is a fact that PZP, a safe immuno-contraception (birth control) protein (NOT a hormone) used in many other mammals for years with 90% effectiveness, is being used on free-roaming deer in other states. It is NOT sterilization, the barbaric method practically patented by Anthony DiNicola (aka "Devil"Nicola); it's humane and dart or other method. There's NO REASON Cleveland Metroparks cannot petition the State of Ohio Div. of Wild"Death" -- which makes half its annual revenue off deer hunting/nuisance permits -- to allow them to use PZP, which involves a dart anesthesia, injection of the birth control, a tag in the ear, and release. Oh, wait, yes there is: it's because the OH Div. of Wild"Death" told the Cleve. Metroparks to stop using it a few years back b/c, "Tainted deer may leave the park and be harvested by hunters, and that would make it unsafe for consumption." WTF! Actually, doing nothing but allowing biological carrying capacity to prevail would keep populations in natural balance. Doing nothing is the superior solution.

Our parks should be a safe haven for wildlife, not a massacre site, where profit and old-school "wildlife biology," driven by hunting mentality -- overseen by Cuyahoga County Judge Russo who appoints the three pro-hunting park directors -- prevails.

Homeless people deserve safe food. Meat is not necessary for proper protein. That is a myth. A plant-based diet is not only healthier for the person and the planet, but it is more humane. See below for 2014 Emerald Reckless kill stats:
