Standish needs a railway station. 

The population of the village has increased significantly in recent years with nearly 1,800 homes being approved/built since 2014. 

The increased number of cars causes huge traffic problems at rush hour through Standish (on way to M6) and Haigh and Aspull (on way to M61). 

A station in Standish would reduce the number of cars on the road and relieve the traffic issues in the area.

Furthermore, there is a climate emergency. We should be doing all we can to reduce car-usage and improve public transport. 

Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Transport announced in January 2020 a fund of £520m to reopen old stations or build new ones. 

Standish previously had two stations: ‘Boars Head’ and ‘Standish’ on Rectory Lane, that have long-since closed. 

If neither of these can be reopened, we ask for a new station, possibly off Bradley Lane: ‘Standish North’.
