Musselburgh Grammar is being refurbished with investment in social spaces and toilets.  This is a good thing.  The design of the toilets are a good thing too. The signage however is not.  ELC are proposing mixed sex toilets, where everyone uses the same main door and shared sinks with cubicles/stalls being fully private.  (NB: A cubicle or stall does NOT have a sink)

Boys and girls are entitled to single sex facilities - only parent and carer power can make this happen.  A similar petition in the Highlands achieved this for a primary school.  WE CAN TOO

ELC are convinced that their interpretation of the law is fine - many believe it is not, further legal advice is being sought.

We want the 2 x 14 blocks of toilets to be marked as single sex, we want the 4 private toilets (with sink in the room) to be marked as open to all. This then meets the needs of all pupils (there are other toilets in the building that can be marked as open to all). Musselburgh Grammar will continue to have 17 toilets suitable for disabled pupils.

Just because this happens in other schools does not mean it has to happen in ours. If you want single sex spaces for your pupils - please sign this petition.
